About South West Gate
South West Gate is a collaboration between the 15 Local Authorities across the South West in Partnership with Universities and other educational groups involved in gifted and talented education.
LA membership: Bath and NE Somerset: (BANES), Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon (Lead LA), Dorset , Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Somerset , South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay, Wiltshire.

The SWGaTE partnership aims to:
- build on the existing gifted and talented provision in the South West and to share effective practice across the 3-19 age phases;
- support CPD provision for teachers across all phases;
- provide a range of enrichment activities for pupils in collaboration with the SW Excellence Hub;
- promote new research in gifted and talented education including teachers' action research projects;
- support and development of initiatives from the national programme for gifted and talented education (YG&T);
- provide an effective networking forum for educational professionals.

For pupils
SWGaTE aims to support and make provision in differing ways for gifted and talented pupils across the 3-19 age phase.
Workshops, masterclasses and summer schools for:
- pupils age 11-19 identified by their schools or, registered for membership of the Learner Academy YG&T or, registered for membership by the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth (NAGTY);
- pupils age 8-11 identified by their schools.
Identifying resources, expertise, and teaching and learning approaches for:
- pupils age 3-8 years as well as 8-19 years
Providing links to careers guidance for:

For teachers
SWGaTE aims to provide support for teachers and educational professionals:
- CPD linked to University accredited masters, and/or PG Cert modules;
- CPD linked to pupil workshops and masterclasses;
- bespoke CPD for schools;
- action research opportunities via teacher scholarships and other funded projects;
- ensuring regular updates on key national developments;
- sharing examples of effective practice;
- establishing a resources bank;
- providing an on-line discussion forum.
